Al Yankovic is most well known for his parodies of modern and even music from the past. Many of his versions are at times better and if not more recognized by normal people than the original. Whenever I hear “Gangster’s Paradise” I can only think of “Amish Paradise” for example. But when Al announced the other day that his newest record was coming out in just under a month I was shocked.
Not only was it announced that his album was dropping so soon but it just might be his last. Yankovic had said that he was strongly considering retiring from making music and going into a more distribution line of work. Yankovic’s latest record is his last on his contract and will feature a parody of Iggy Azela’s “Fancy” as well as a track from one of stand up comedian Patton Oswalt’s favorite bands.
I can only hope that Weird Al doesn’t call it quits quite yet seeing as his parodies are a bright light in today’s very depressing and bleak pop oriented music world.
