New Arcade Fire Single…

Is totally fucking awesome. Sorry about that one. The new single is entitled Reflektor which is the name of the album as well. The track’s seven minute plus length features a very surprising and special guest and that guest is none other than David Bowie.

The new record drops October 29th and will obviously feature a super large tour of which I will attempt to go see.

Better Call Saul!

With the final few episodes of Breaking Bad left fans are soon to be left with an empty void that was once filled by the likes of Jesse Pinkman and Walter White. But never you fear folks there will be a prequel series in the works starring everyone’s favorite lawyer Saul Goodman.

Of course this isn’t technically new news since they already had mentioned this over the summer but now it’s officially in the works. The hour long program will feature Bob Odenkirk as the seedy lawyer and it will follow him before he met White. When it will air or any other deets are not known but it’s a damn good thing because Saul is one of my personal favorites.

Since I’m On Fire Today: Star Wars Rumors!

JJ Abrams will be directing the yet untitled Star Wars sequel due out at some point (I believe 2015 was the target year) and while there have been casting rumors and some “confirmed” casting this one rumor has gotten fanboys and girls all squeamish and wet in their undies.

Several months ago I posted a list of my dream Doctor for Doctor Who and the number two actor on the list was the recently found super mega popular Benedict Cumberbatch or as I jokingly call him Bendy Cucumber. Cumberbatch has found immense popularity over the past few years with the immensely popular Sherlock BBC series and his recent film appearance in Star Trek as…Khan…but with the upcoming third season of Sherlock as well as other commitments (the Hobbit movies are due out soon with him in it) we have to wonder if Cumberbatch will have time to play a large role in the new Star Wars film.

My theory is yes he will. Granted if there is a third Trek film he’ll be back and with both Hobbit roles being finished, unless they need him in post, it’s highly unlikely he will have a super booked schedule. Plus it seems like after the three episode seasons of Sherlock they take a break so why not play the hero or even the main villain in the upcoming Trilogy. He recently worked with Abrams on Trek and stole the show, so why not?

Anyway this is just a rumor but I hope there is some merit to it, because we could all use a little Bendy Cucumber in our lives.

The Good News and the Bad News Of Transformers 4

So we all know Michael Bay is doing a new Transformers movie. That’s bad. Marky Mark is the star. That’s good (I like Marky Mark). The film has the dinobots. That’s really good. The film is still a Michael Bay Transformers movie. That is very bad.

The other day though the announcement of the Dinobots being in the movie sent both a sense of elation and depression among the fans of the classic Robots in Disguise. You see Grimlock will be making a big screen debut when the film hits theaters and I am not sure about most of you but Grimlock was my all time favorite Transformer. So hearing this made me happy and sad, as I sat in the car on the way home from work reading this article to the person driving I felt the strong urge to cry.

So now you know. Transformers 4: Age of Extinction is due out at some point in the near summer years. Avoid it at all costs.

Two Pretty Big Marvel Castings Might Both Be Better Than DC

So the big news last week was that Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad fame was to be playing Lex Luthor. Well Cranston has downplayed the beejeezus out of the idea although he does seem keen. Word on the street though is that Cranston has the role and that Warner-DC is just waiting until Breaking Bad has come to a complete end later this fall (in 4 weeks) to make an official announcement.

Meanwhile over at Disney-Marvel two big casting announcements had been made recently. Both are huge roles, one of which is the lead character in James Gunn’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film and the other is a villain in Joss Whedon’s Avengers sequel. Both of Marvel’s castings though are tremendously wise and well good whereas Ben Affleck’s Batman is spotty but if Cranston is Luthor we got a slightly contested title here.

Playing the role of Ultron in the Avengers sequel is James Spader. Spader was the lead role on Boston Legal for four seasons and would later take over as the branch manager at Dunder Mifflin in one of the final seasons of The Office. He is currently starring in The Black List which is a new cable television series. I am not sure how Ultron is as a character (I never read the comic with him in it) but I am sure Spader can handle the role excellently.

Meanwhile up in space Jenkintown, PA’s very own Bradley Cooper will be the voice of Rocket Raccoon. RR is the heart and sole of the Guardians and who better than Cooper to provide the wise talking voice. I’ve met Cooper once before (local boy) and he was pretty nice and on top of that the last few years has seen him rise up past the rom com drek that he did in the past (not that all of them were that bad) With recent large roles such as the Hangover Trilogy and Silver Linings Playbook Cooper is a solid signing for the Marvelverse as is Spader.

Guardians comes out next year while May 2015 is where Whedon will try to top the first Avengers film.
