You listen to the radio and you know a certain song is bound to come on like virtually every single hour. Granted some of these songs are actually good and well great, but at the same time they are so annoying when heard every single god damn hour. You know you just want to reach into the car stereo and beat the shit out of the DJ. But then again if you listen to pop radio stations then that’s your own damn fault….
10. Silversun Pickups – Panic Switch
These guys are a good band, don’t get me wrong. Lazy Eye, Little Lovers So Polite…etc are great songs, this one isn’t that bad either. But with the mainstream success of their latest album came the promotion of the singles. This is one that was played the most if I’m correct. It got old, not saying it’s not a song to listen to on occasion but still, Substitution and the Royal We got the same treatment. I think I might be able to sing this in my sleep
9. The Black Keys – Tighten Up
At first I was like yeah, then after a month I was like uh no. The music video makes up for it though to an extent but not enough for me to want to say that this song didn’t get a tad too much airplay. The Black Keys though are a band that deserve and warrant air play but not a band that needs this much, they already have a built in fanbase so why force new ones?
8. Neon Trees – Animal
I am so glad this song died out, well sort of. The song was cool at first in a sense that it was catchy and it sounded hip but every hour or so hearing the same song, even midway through [I don’t always have the radio on] it began to dawn on me it was just a money game, we just want to play who pays us or something like that. Plus look at them, they look punk but they act indie. Really odd.
7. Phoenix – Liztomania/1901
I’m going to cheat here because this is virtually the same song. They switch between the two every hour, one Phoenix song one hour and another another hour. It’s a pair of awesome songs of one of my favorite albums but seriously? This is an album with a nice amount of good songs and you have to play the same two? I remember a time when these two songs weren’t on the radio and Lasso was the lead single and I was shocked to hear that one.
6. The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition
A song that came out last year still being overplayed in 2010? Sure. Last year this song was featured on 500 Days of Summer the soundtrack and this year it was mainstream alt rock success through the summer when I assume the band finally said F*** it, here’s a new song from the same album play this . Sure I love this song, but hearing it all the time is like, having sex every five hours of every day, you lose the excitement and thrill of it.
5. 30 Seconds to Mars – Kings and Queens
Like I said at the beginning not all these songs are good. This song lands here due to it’s awful poppy feel to it. Jared Leto, frontman of this shit band, is trying so hard to find something new in copying other styles. The song has that annoying chorus and sound that just makes punching baby seals acceptable. On top of that this song was featured in how many movie trailers?
4. 30 Seconds to Mars – This is War
Apparently this album was four years in the making. If it’s so good why do they appear on this list not once but twice? That’s what I thought. This song is just redundant and annoying. At the beginning of the year and the summer this song was blasting across alternative rock radio stations and it still gets overplayed even though the follow up single is just as bad if not a bit more annoying. Hearing Jared Leto try to scream and sing once more makes my ears bleed a little bit.
3. Mumford and Sons – Little Lion Man
The first time I heard this song I was like damn this is pretty good. So I got the album. I loved it, kind of. This song was great, catchy, very full of folk and just damn good times. Then every day as if almost without fail I heard it at least twice on the radio and I only listened to the radio for about 45 minutes a day on the same station….it got old real fast. Then everyone at college played it, or the Cave. Wow real hip guys.
2. Muse – Neutron Star Collision (Our Love Will Last Forever)
Muse used to be one of those cool bands you liked to rock out to. But ever since the Twitards got a hold of it through the soundtracks they feel less awesome. They put out an album last year and it was awful. Talk about trying to be something else. Those songs were superoverplayed. This entry should just be like any Muse song ever. What angers me about this song is the mad airplay it got for being a song written about Twilight when the DJs literally say oh here is a great song off the great Twilight album…WTF
1. Cee-Lo Green – Forget You
Kyle you are a hypotcite you say. But it’s true. While this song may be a great song to listen to and have stuck in your head, hearing it every single hour almost virtually on the hour got real old, real fast. It wasn’t that the song wasn’t good it’s just that there was no depth to it, The song is just a catchy beat and what not. It got so popular that the writer’s of one of the worst television shows of our time had to put it in an episode sung by a guest star who can’t even sing.
