Tommy Wiseau of Wiseau Films has announced his plan for the upcoming theatrical year, or the one after-he doesn’t quite know yet-but it’s great news. Wiseau the director, star, writer and producer of one of the centuries greatest cult classics has decided to put his only feature film, his bread and butter in 3-D. That’s right guys, The Room will be in eye popping 3-D. Imagine what happens when Tommy’s ass pops out at you from the screen. You could almost reach out and grab it.
“The process is very detail-oriented,” said Wiseau told Entertainment Weekly. “But we want to do it because I’m obsessed about 3-D right now, if you ask me.” The 3-D craze has struck all in part due to the large success of 2009’s hit AVATAR directed by none other than one of my favorite people to hate on James Cameron. “My bottom will have to be in 3-D because I’m not changing anything,” he explained. “So you’ll be very close.” Wiseau’s plan to just put the film in 3-D can take a while as the film won’t be re-released until late 2011 if not early 2012.
The film’s original theatrical run was a flop but has gained recent success due to in large part the cult status it has gained. The film has midnight screenings across the country (well mainly LA and NY) almost every single week with Wiseau showing up at a majority of them in one of the cities doing some Q&A.
Not only does Wiseau plan on making it 3-D but before he wants to put it out on Blu-Ray much to the delights of comedians such as Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill and the comedic duo Tim and Eric. “We want a Blu-ray release before Christmas 2011,” he said.” I have hundreds of emails from people saying, ‘We want to see the behind-the-scenes footage.’ I say, ‘Yes you can, as soon as we release the Blu-ray.”Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim featured Wiseau on an episode of their recently ended Adult Swim program “Tim and Eric: Awesome Show: Great Job!” in which Wiseau directed a sketch called “Pig Man” and he starred as “Pig Man.”
Wiseau who recently had a short film put out entitled “The House that Drips Blood on Alex” is still trying to get his sitcom “The Neighbors” to get accepted by a major network. The director also stated that he himself is working on another feature. For the full story check it out here.
