I’m a die hard X-Men fan. I’ve read the first 515 issues of the Uncanny X-Men until I got tired with all the silly story arcs. I enjoy the symbolism that Stan Lee placed in the comics when it first started. I really do love the characters in the comics even if they are not the greatest in writing.
When they made it into films I was hesitant. The first X-Men was good, if not great for a super hero film at the end of the century. Great casting of Sir Ian McKellan as the evil Magneto and Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier were amazing. Hugh Jackman looked just like Wolverine but he lacked the big bite.
The second one was better, adding Peter Cummings as Nightcrawler was genius. Although I didn’t like how every single movie now in the series is now about Wolverine.
X-3 was the worst a nightmare at best.
So when Singer was announced to be making a prequel of sorts I was intrigued. The plot was revealed earlier today and here it is from Topless Robot which is through /Film:
X-Men First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
Sure that doesn’t sound awful but at the same time, the villain is KEVIN BACON….
