Jenny Lewis is a slut. Flat out, she is one of the biggest whores to walk this earth. But at the same time she is the most beloved whore/slut to ever walk this planet, but that’s because sluts and whores aren’t loved. Ms. Lewis is not a slut nor a whore by traditional sense of the word. For those of you who have no idea who I talking about you are probably sitting there thinking, wow this guy really thinks this Jenny Lewis gal is a whore/slut worth posting about.
Well I got news for you people who think that. She isn’t. Jenny Lewis is a former child actor turned talented musician. What I mean when I say that she has gone to whoring is how many duos/team ups/etc… she has to do before we get a new album from her main body of work, the indie rock band Rilo Kiley.
Ms. Lewis started her musical career around the turn of the century by starting up the band Rilo Kiley. The band put out their first Extended Play (EP) called The Initial Friend which would later be repressed as a self titled album. By 2004 the band had 3 studio albums (Take Offs and Landings, The Execution of All Things, More Adventurous). But between 2004 (when More Adventurous came out) and 2007 (when they put out their first and to date only major label album) Lewis started a solo career of sorts.
In 2006, Lewis appeared on an album entitled Rabbit Fur Coat with the Watson Twins. Consequently this would help bolster her status as a solo artist. After 2007’s Rilo Kiley album Under the Blacklight semi-tanked the band went on some form of hiatus (they have yet to produce any new material). Lewis though went out in 2008 and released yet another solo project entitled Acid Tongue.
Lewis though throughout her career in Rilo Kiley has appeared in so many other bands albums. Having appeared in Cursive’s 2003 album The Ugly Organ as well as Bright Eyes’ 2002 album Lifted or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground. Now not to sully her good name she went out and appeared on Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard’s side project’s (The Postal Service) album called Give Up.
Lewis would later also throw herself on the Good Life’s 2004 record Album of the Year. She would appear on The Watson Twins future records as well as the 2007 and 2009 Whisptertown2000 albums.
So then why make this post? Well new music from Jenny Lewis is hitting the internet [it’s now on the internet, not sure of the release date]. It’s called I’m Having Fun Now. But the thing is, it’s a teamup with singer-songwriter Jonathan Rice (who is very talented in his own right). Now why am I so mad about this? I want a new Rilo Kiley album. While Jenny’s successful solo career has either left some room to imagine or whatever the saying is, it leaves fans craving more Rilo Kiley and we can’t keep listening to The Execution of All Things forever can we?
